Salento history

Salento, the extreme southeastern border of Italy, is a peninsula pressed between two seas. It represents a unique mixture of history and traditions, originated from centuries of encounters with the other Mediterranean civilizations, whose culture and customs, existence and destiny are interwoven with its own. Salento history always met with the Oriental one, starting from the legend that sees in the inhabitant of Creta the founders of Lecce. Specchie neolitiche, Dolmen and Menhir, are constructions typical of Indo-European origin, testimony of an ancient history engraved in the territory.
